When it comes to war films, there is one you won’t want to miss out on watching. With the autumn nights kicking in, there’s nothing better than sitting back and getting cosy with a film on. If you’re looking for something to watch, look no further than Das Boot, which has been called a “masterpiece”.
The 1981 film has captured audiences since it came out and it’s stood the test of time over the years. The film tells the story of a German submarine which hunts allied ships during the Second World War, but it soon becomes the hunted. On Rotten Tomatoes, it’s gained an impressive 98% rating.
The crew tries to survive below the surface, while stretching both the boat and themselves to their limits.
One person on Rotten Tomatoes said: “Coming from a current Submariner, Das Boot is the pinnacle of submarine movies. It might even be one of the best war movies ever made.
“You will not regret watching this. Recommend the 3 hour Directors Cut version. It builds each character to the point where they feel like your friends and you are part of the crew.

Another person penned: “I saw this 3 times the first year it was out, 1981, in German with English subtitles. Then later they released it dubbed in English, and I saw it again.
“Very authentic looking scenes, big or small. Told from the German perspective, if you like war movies, this is as good as it gets, a masterpiece….and I need to see it again!”
