Police released a photo Wednesday of a suspect in an assault of a homeless man who died weeks later.
Jorrell Shoals, 37, has been described as a “person of interest” in the June 23 assault, when responding officers rushed to Willis Ave. near Third Ave. in Mott Haven and found victim Ramon Cruz, 54, with a laceration on his face at around 10:55 p.m., cops said.
Medics rushed Cruz to Lincoln Hospital in stable condition. However, he died from his injuries less than four weeks later on July 17 for reasons that were not immediately clear, cops said.
On Wednesday, the city medical examiner was still investigating Cruz’s death, a spokesman said. Police described Cruz as homeless.
Shoals was described by cops as about 5 feet 9 inches tall, with a medium complexion, and weighing 180 pounds. Anyone with information about the assault is asked to call the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at (800) 577-TIPS (8477).
